DEVISED

A multigenerational, multidisciplinary performing arts workshop for stage-makers and shakers. We will create an original performance in just 8 weeks.

South End Studio | 696 Pine Street Burlington VT

FALL 2021 | 8-week series TEENS & ADULTS | Thursdays from 6-9 pm | September 23, October 30, 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11

Final Show | Saturday November 13th, 2021

DETAILS:

Devised theater – sometimes called collective creation – is a style of theater-making that strays from working off of a script. Instead, the content originates from collaborative, improvisational “workshopping” by the performers that will take the stage. In this workshop we enter a highly collaborative process to generate new narratives, build relationships, and practice equity in cultural production. Why? To make LOCAL POP CULTURE!

Who better to design a show than the very people that will perform it? Open to participants ages 18 and up (or advanced teens), this workshop is for performers from a VARIETY of performing arts backgrounds and is geared towards folks who want to explore NEW MEDIUMS through interdisciplinary collaboration. Some stage experience is helpful and a willingness to build new relationships, creatively collaborate, and be a part of a dynamic group experience is required.

The 8-week workshop meets once a week and requires rehearsal and reflection outside of class. Generating their own material, participants will create an original show from start to finish. Facilitated by ITA’s Trish Denton, the workshop emphasizes emergence, artistic vision, allyship, idea-generation, group process, community-building, and pushing your creative edge.

To culminate, we will host a final performance on Saturday, November 13th for friends and family.

EPOCH GENERATION

A future history-making performing arts workshop for teen participants. As a group, we will make an original performance in 10 sessions.

South End Studio | 696 Pine Street Burlington VT

Final Show | Saturday November 20th, 2021

DETAILS:

Documentary theater uses existing historic material to inspire stories about real events & real people. EPOCH GENERATION is a performing arts workshop that offers a playful approach to documentary forms by staging performances where FUTURE-HISTORY is made. We combine historic documents, storytelling, music, dance, acting, movement, poetry, and physicality to GENERATE NEW NARRATIVES about the future.

Who better to design visions of the future than the people that will run it? Open to people ages 15-20, this workshop is for participants from a VARIETY of performing arts interests and is geared towards folks who want to explore NEW MEDIUMS through interdisciplinary collaboration. No stage experience is necessary; simply a willingness to build new relationships, creatively collaborate, and be a part of a dynamic group experience.

The 10-week workshop meets once a week and requires rehearsal and reflection outside of class. With their own material, participants will create an original show from start to finish. Facilitated by ITA’s Trish Denton, the workshop emphasizes movement, imagination, idea-generation, group process, building community, and pushing your creative edge.

To culminate, we will host a final performance on Saturday, November 20th for friends and family.
