Epoch Generation Program Assistant / Teaching Artist
Epoch Generation is a creative incubator to generate new narratives for a new epoch of performance. An intensive workshop and education program led by teens, Epoch is a team environment for research and experimentation. The program arc begins with documentary research to mine historic turning points. The process is a challenge to translate true stories into fiction by staging and producing an original work over the course of several weeks. Meeting on Tuesdays & Thursdays for 10-weeks in the Fall and 12-weeks in the Spring, Epoch becomes a supported space for understanding our shared cultural narratives and learning something deeper about ourselves as individuals within a larger group.
ITA is seeking a Teaching Artist who has a background in the performing arts to support the general program needs of Epoch Generation. The Program Assistant / Teaching Artist will work with 8-12th grade students in our South End studio from September 2022-May 2023, with an option to renew the position in June of next year. This person will work closely with both the students and the Program Director to facilitate the creation of an interdisciplinary, original, student-led performance. The performance will be participatory, immersive, site-specific, or multimedia in nature.
This role requires constant bravery to model “the work”, mentor and serve as a sounding-board for the students, as well as have the ability to step back and encourage student leadership. All mediums will be considered, but we will give priority to performing artists with a background in theater, movement, or dance. We are especially interested in folks with prior experience as teaching artists or those with experience in interdisciplinary arts instruction. Primary qualifications are someone that is highly creative, forward-thinking, versatile, and above all, collaborative.
Epoch Generation is a pilot program in the 2022-23 academic school year. ITA has partnered with Media Factory and Vermont Afterschool in an effort to grow and establish this fledgling project. We hope to cast someone in this role that is interested in contributing to Epoch’s growth as a program and is comfortable helping to shape its “systems” of operation. This is a regular part-time position funded for 10-12 hours a week (about $3500 per session). We anticipate growth.
